We currently hold upward of 10,000 records including photographs, documents and artefacts relating to Downham Market and the other 34 villages within the ‘Clackclose One Hundred’ area. An administrative region established in Norfolk following the conquest of Wessex in the early 10th Century.
Now part of Kings Lynn and West Norfolk, the ‘Hundred’ extended some 24 1/2 miles from south-west to north-east and was recorded in the Doomsday book written in 1086.
