Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. Whether you have a lifelong interest in heritage or are simply curious to try something new, we would love to welcome you to our friendly and supportive team.

Volunteering with us is a great way to meet new people, learn new skills, and help preserve and share our heritage for future generations. No prior experience is required for most roles — enthusiasm and willingness to get involved are what matter most.

Where We Especially Need Help

We welcome help in all areas, but we are particularly keen to hear from anyone interested in:

  • Stewarding – welcoming visitors, answering questions, and helping create a positive experience for everyone who comes through our doors.
  • Archiving and collections work – including PC-based work using MODES and similar systems. Full guidance and support will be provided.
  • Displays and exhibitions – helping to create, refresh, and maintain engaging displays.
  • Events and activities – assisting with organising and supporting talks, quizzes, cafés, and special events.
  • Library work – helping to care for and manage our reference materials and collections.

If your interests or skills don’t quite fit these areas, please don’t be put off — we are always happy to discuss how you might get involved.
